After visiting Bruntingthorpe on a Cold War Jets Open Day, the SIG is pleased to present a walk around of ZA326, a truly unique and very important airframe. It was fantastic to meet everyone involved with The Panavia Tornado Preservation Group and I'd like to thank them for the chat and warm welcome. If any SIG members or website visitors are keen to support the preservation of ZA326 please do visit their website and donate a penny or two.
The aircraft is essentially ready for a taxi run, but there are two 'small' components missing. If anyone happens to have some Turbo Union RB199's........ I look forward to following ZA326's progress. For additional images, there are many, many interesting pictures on their Flickr photo stream Regular visitors to the site will be familiar with the build. For those that aren't, there are no decals on this model. A truly amazing build. For a look inside the box of Italeri's latest release (rebox of there old IDS kit) pop over to our facebook page. Andy Hardwick will be building the kit as part of our IPMS SMW 2017 display.
Tornado crew, Sqn Ldr Gary Lennox and Sqn Ldr Adrian Paul 'Kev' Weeks were both killed on the 22nd of January 1991 during a low level ground attack mission on Ar Rutbah radar site in Iraq.
On the 14th February Flt Lt Hick's Tornado was hit by a SAM missile during an attack on an airfield in central Iraq. Flt Lt Clark, his pilot command ejected some minutes later when he could no longer control the aircraft. Flt Lt Hicks was found to be dead. Flt Lt Clark became a POW and was subsequently released. Each year the SIG will take a minute to remember a different Tornado crew who made the ultimate sacrifice. They shall grow not old, as we are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember then. we are pleased to bring you the next part of Martin's build. A stunning build and we look forward to bringing you the next update. Remember folks - no decals were used!
We are in Hall 2. Come over and say hello. 21 Days and counting. Our display will be split between a Gulf War display and a Wingman Decals Luftwaffe Tornado display.
