here is our display at the Northern Model Show (with a special WWI guest on it's way to the competition). A few special schemes aircraft that will be part of our Telford display have also joined the display. Plenty of Tornados on other tables too. Credit goes to:
South Tyne Model Makers Club IPMS Newton Aycliffe Model Maker's Club IPMS West Riding Scottish Aviation As ever, it was a great show. Andy W, Andy H and Nathan were in attendance at the Northern Model Show again this year. Some of us managed to leave with more cash than when we arrived and there was cake! Here is our table at the Northern Model Show. There were quite a few Tornados on display on other tables too. The 1/144 SIG had a great collection of Tornados too. One had scratch built deployed flaps too!
A very enjoyable show !! The new venue was a brilliant success....light and airy , loads of space and decent canteen too. I had booked two tables and I thought "oh no ...not enough ! " Thankfully there where a lot of spare tables that had not been needed for the show set up so we got two extra ...Phew !! Space for the Tonkas . Andy Mk2 had the idea of putting the box contents of the new Revell kit on display and it certainly got lots of attention and no doubt a few sales for the traders. Cleveland club member Greg brought his newly finished Revell 1/32 kit along ( lovely it is too ! ) but he put it on the Cleveland tables....we tried , unsuccessfully , to kidnap it and stick it on the SIG tables !! I cant overstate just how much better this show was compared to last years ......everyone I spoke to had nothing but praise for the larger venue and the set up ....well done to all at IPMS Tyneside for putting on a great Show and Im sure it will now go from strength to strength at its new home. This year's Northern model show was held at a new venue.......the University of Northumbria in central Newcastle.
A rather quieter than normal show but nevertheless an enjoyable one.....as ever mainly down to the banter we have with the rest of the IPMS Cleveland members.....in particular Terry and the Club secretary John ( No John , you can not put any tanks on our table....only Tornado's with fuel tanks !!) What might of been a daunting drive into Newcastle City centre turned out to be not that bad ....as long as you got in a car park near the venue !! Thankfully most of the IPMS Cleveland convoy along with Nathan managed to get parked close to the venue but it was still a fair trek with boxes to the front doors. Big thanks to Nathan for setting the tables up .....it was just us two as Andy MkII was away. The table looked quite empty without Andy MkIIs considerable Tonka collection. One very interesting addition to the display was Nathans 1/1250 Tornado with scratch built Hindenburgers......yes that's not a typo. Can you spot it in front of the SIG display sign ?? ( I nearly "wiped" it off the table thinking it was an insect !! ) Apart from our Tonkas we saw only one other .....a very nice 36 Stormo Tornado built from the 1/48 Italeri kit by David Thomas of the Tyneside Independent Modellers. No awards this time for the SIG but our IPMS Cleveland club members won a few first places in the competition......a very big well done to newly joined Tornado SIG member Greg who won Best in Show with his Tamiya Lotus racing car !!.......now go get that 1/32 Revell kit that you have built !!
