'Diavoli Rossi' travels to Vilnius, Lithuania. May 21st 2016. As its part of the Tornado display I am very happy to say one of the Italian 'Diavoli Rossi' F84F Thunderstreaks got a 1st place at the Vilnius Model show. I'll let Andy Mk2 explain how the Tornado SIG managed to be so far away from the UK..... Hi everyone. Just thought I would post a quick report about the Vilnius Model Show which I was invited to by some Lithuanian model club friends I have made over the last year. I did intend to take a couple of aircraft models to put into the show but afterwards decided that it might be a nice opportunity to go along as the Tornado SIG and put on a little display to show what we do here in the UK as regards to clubs and events. I made a couple of little frames to introduce the SIG with a brief and basic information page. I made some small flyers with the SIG logo and Facebook address. I managed to get a nice blue tablecloth from the house to take along with the AIR DATA Tornado book for plenty of reference material. The icing on the cake for me was taking 3 Tornados from the UK in an old shoe box, these included my Italian ECR 1/48 Tornado along with 2 smaller 1/72 scale kits, the Desert GR1 and another Italian AF IDS Tonka. I managed to get through a 100 mile car drive to Luton airport, through check-in and onto the aircraft to Vilnius in Lithuania then off the other end a taxi ride to where we collect our car from then a 30 km drive with the last 3 km off-road to the farm where we live then another trip into Vilnius to the show without one breakage ! The show was in a tower block community centre on the ground floor. I was given an end table space to set up the display. What was nice to see was a collection of 10 different countries flags hanging on the main wall in the hall with the Union Flag amongst them...a first I am assured! Over the weekend the SIG had a lot of interest and most of the flyers were taken. Lots of photographs were taken and I spent a few hours chatting to other modellers about the Tornado and our happy group of builders ! Overall a super weekend. Lots of other great models on display and plenty of happy memories to take away. Models on other tables |
