The SIG’s display at Telford is going big, not in terms of space but scale.
We will be displaying 1/32 scale builds using various iterations of Revell’s release with a few conversions along the way.
If you would like to add a 1/32 build to the display, then please get in touch.
We are in Hall 2. Come over and say hello. 21 Days and counting. Our display will be split between a Gulf War display and a Wingman Decals Luftwaffe Tornado display.
2016 marks the 25th anniversary of the first Gulf War. The Tornado SIG put on a special display at the Bolton Model show almost to the hour that air attacks were launched by RAF Tornado GR1s. The SIG continue to mark the anniversary that has come to define the Tornado with a special display at shows this year culminating at this years IPMS SMW. Along side the display, a collection of materials will be added to a dedicated section of the site.
The first addition to this part of the site is a collection of previously unpublished photograph that look at the often overlooked role of the Tornado F3 in the first gulf war. For fans of the Saudi IDS, there is also a rare treat: a photograph of a Saudi Tornado....in Saudi Arabia!
Membership of the SIG is completely free and is open to IPMS members and non-members alike (although we would encourage you to join the IPMS). Joining instructions can be found here. We attend a number of shows across the country, and occasionally overseas. Members are encouraged to come along and bring a model to add to the display.
To mark the anniversary of the 'Red Devils' Andy Hardwick put on a special display at SMW 2015, showing the history of the Squadron from the aerobatic display team, through to the current Tornado. The display has been on tour and has featured in a number of magazines since Telford. At this year's Vilnius model show the Starfighter won a first place in the open competition.
