This year's display included a Harrier Gr.3 Built as a tribute to Steve Hague, a friend of the SIG who had sadly passed away on the 21st of May. I'd first met Steve as an air cadet, he was a civilian instructor with 2388 Castleford Squadron. By a simple twist of fate, I also ended up working with Steve later on in life at the Sunrise Chinese Takeaway, in Kippax, East Leeds.
It was during these two periods of my life that Steve nurtured my interest in aviation and modelling, although I'm fairly sure he is somewhat perturbed that I ended up building so many Tornados. But at least they are not the devil's work (as Steve called helicopters). Steve took me to many airshows, and my first IPMS Nationals at Donnington. We kept in touch over the following years and would meet up at various model shows in the North of England and at SMW. Steve, you are missed, 'but no good will come of it'* Nathan *one of Steve's many one liners. |
