A small show, but well worth a visit. Here are some photos of the table. Here are a few pictures of today's display. a nice Italian Tornado on the South Tyne Model Makers Club stand. Two more Tornados on the York and District stand. And a personal favourite on IPMS Langley Moor.
This year's display included a Harrier Gr.3 Built as a tribute to Steve Hague, a friend of the SIG who had sadly passed away on the 21st of May. I'd first met Steve as an air cadet, he was a civilian instructor with 2388 Castleford Squadron. By a simple twist of fate, I also ended up working with Steve later on in life at the Sunrise Chinese Takeaway, in Kippax, East Leeds.
It was during these two periods of my life that Steve nurtured my interest in aviation and modelling, although I'm fairly sure he is somewhat perturbed that I ended up building so many Tornados. But at least they are not the devil's work (as Steve called helicopters). Steve took me to many airshows, and my first IPMS Nationals at Donnington. We kept in touch over the following years and would meet up at various model shows in the North of England and at SMW. Steve, you are missed, 'but no good will come of it'* Nathan *one of Steve's many one liners. And yet again the boys from the Brid and Wolds Model Club have put on another excellent show ! This year the main display area was held in a very large and airy marquee (even carpeted...very posh ! ) There were two other display areas which all together made for a bigger show than previous years. It is likely that next years show will be held in the new purpose built display hall that is under construction. This show just gets better and better ....roll on next year !! The 4 spacious tables were manned by Nathan , Andy Mk2 (who had LITERALLY stepped off a plane from Lithuania and picked up some lads from the Scunthorpe Club and then drove here....total hours of sleep - 0 ,Zero ,Zilch , Nowt , Nothing !) and myself (Mk1). We had company from IPMS Cleveland and just along from us were the lads from AMSIG (Airfix Modelling SIG) .Big thanks to Tom for loaning us his Revell H.A.S display . We had a few new builds on the table .....Nathans big 32nd scale Norm 83 Luftwaffe kite and his new tool Revell Italian IDS . I had the ASSTA 3 demo to add. All in all a most enjoyable day and for IPMS Cleveland quite a haul in the model competition, 6 rosettes and the best 1/72 WW2 aircraft in show. Some shots of the IPMS Cleveland and IDF SIG tables
The Shows second year and was another very enjoyable event organised by the good folk of IPMS Bridlington and Wolds who are a very helpful and all round good bunch of lads.
The SIG tables where manned by the great traveller and aviator ( he flew an An 2 over in Lithuania on his birthday !! ) Andy MkII , Madnursegaz and myself ....ohh yes and a lot of help from the IPMS Cleveland Gang .....thanks very much ! Models displayed ; 1/144 (Gaz) , 1/72 (Andy MKI and II and Mike Burns Shiny Two with his revetment (cheers mate !) ,1/48 and 1/32 by both Andys. Special thanks to SIG member "theflyingdutchman" (Gerald) from the Netherlands who kindly gave Andy MkII one of his Luftwaffe special scheme Tornado to display ....( he picked it up on his way home from Lithuania... he actually DROVE there and back !!) A great first show that was organised by the Bridlington and Wolds branch. We all had a very good day with a lot of interest from public and personalities alike !! We had an audience with Mr Airfix , Trevor Snowden , and we all learned a lot from the very friendly chap !!
A big thumbs up to the organisers for a successful show and we are already looking forward to next year . |
