Ollie flew the flag for us at the show and managed to put on a very good display of Tornados ...GR1s and F3s in 1/72 , 1/48 and some big 32nd scale kits. Centre of attention was his recent build of the new tool Revell 1/48 kit made out of the box in the very eye-catching box-art scheme. As an added bonus a 1/1 scale "work in progress" is parked up just outside the hall where the models were displayed ! A very enjoyable show !! The new venue was a brilliant success....light and airy , loads of space and decent canteen too. I had booked two tables and I thought "oh no ...not enough ! " Thankfully there where a lot of spare tables that had not been needed for the show set up so we got two extra ...Phew !! Space for the Tonkas . Andy Mk2 had the idea of putting the box contents of the new Revell kit on display and it certainly got lots of attention and no doubt a few sales for the traders. Cleveland club member Greg brought his newly finished Revell 1/32 kit along ( lovely it is too ! ) but he put it on the Cleveland tables....we tried , unsuccessfully , to kidnap it and stick it on the SIG tables !! I cant overstate just how much better this show was compared to last years ......everyone I spoke to had nothing but praise for the larger venue and the set up ....well done to all at IPMS Tyneside for putting on a great Show and Im sure it will now go from strength to strength at its new home. I'll let Andy Mk2 explain how the Tornado SIG managed to be so far away from the UK..... Hi everyone. Just thought I would post a quick report about the Vilnius Model Show which I was invited to by some Lithuanian model club friends I have made over the last year. I did intend to take a couple of aircraft models to put into the show but afterwards decided that it might be a nice opportunity to go along as the Tornado SIG and put on a little display to show what we do here in the UK as regards to clubs and events. I made a couple of little frames to introduce the SIG with a brief and basic information page. I made some small flyers with the SIG logo and Facebook address. I managed to get a nice blue tablecloth from the house to take along with the AIR DATA Tornado book for plenty of reference material. The icing on the cake for me was taking 3 Tornados from the UK in an old shoe box, these included my Italian ECR 1/48 Tornado along with 2 smaller 1/72 scale kits, the Desert GR1 and another Italian AF IDS Tonka. I managed to get through a 100 mile car drive to Luton airport, through check-in and onto the aircraft to Vilnius in Lithuania then off the other end a taxi ride to where we collect our car from then a 30 km drive with the last 3 km off-road to the farm where we live then another trip into Vilnius to the show without one breakage ! The show was in a tower block community centre on the ground floor. I was given an end table space to set up the display. What was nice to see was a collection of 10 different countries flags hanging on the main wall in the hall with the Union Flag amongst them...a first I am assured! Over the weekend the SIG had a lot of interest and most of the flyers were taken. Lots of photographs were taken and I spent a few hours chatting to other modellers about the Tornado and our happy group of builders ! Overall a super weekend. Lots of other great models on display and plenty of happy memories to take away. Models on other tablesOllie and Nigel had a great spot ....next to the resident 43 sqn Tornado F3 . Special thanks to Alex for bringing his super Raspberry Ripple Tonka to display ! This is our parent club display at our meeting spot , Sunnyfield House in Guisborough just outside of Middlesbrough to celebrate its 20th birthday.
Along with the club and the SIG the clubs other SIGs where present namely the IDF SIG(Israeli Defence Forces SIG ) and the UKCAF SIG ( UK and Commonwealth Forces SIG ). Thanks to my ever so loving boss I could only make the last ten minutes of the day ! Grr !! I'm sure it was a great day as we normally have to put up with lots of friendly banter from the "Non-Tornado Makers " . Lol !! Our second visit to this excellent Show which had the North and South members behind the tables for the first time since Telford. Nathan and myself ( Andy Mk2 was away in Scotland unfortunately) joined forces with Nigel and Ollie behind four tables in the Cold War Hangar under the Valiant ( limited headroom for us six footers ...ouch !! ). We were next to our club members from IPMS Cleveland ( it was a very early get up , 4am and 3 and a half hour drive for us Northerners ) and as usual we had a good bit of banter between the tables . All of us thoroughly enjoyed the show but we did miss being near the resident Tornado which is hopefully being re-painted in its original red and white prototype colours. Something to look forward to for next years visit. Sitting outside and with signs of its paintwork being stripped off ready for a fresh coat .....XX946 P.02. There are many picture of P.02 in the member's only section. For info on how to join, click here.
A two day event held at Hornchurch Sports Centre over the weekend of the 15th and 16th saw Ollie and Nigel manning the tables. The SIG had a couple of tables at the venue that was well attended and a lot of interested folk stopped by and had a chat with the Tonka Twins. A few photos of the display ...... This Show is held at Peterborough Town Hall and our "Southern Sector" SIG members Ollie and Nigel manned the display .....and it was a very well presented one at that ! As well as some plastic Tornado there was also some real bits of Tornado on the display table courtesy of Nigel. Ollie managed to get a Commended for his Black Panther Italeri Tonka and Nigel bagged a years subs to Airfix Model World ! Our first show of the year! Just Nathan, myself and a couple of Mr Snowden's kits. As ever, we had IPMS Cleveland next door for company. Another enjoyable day and possibly the last show to be held at the Sports centre .......a new venue is planned for next year.
