The Shows second year and was another very enjoyable event organised by the good folk of IPMS Bridlington and Wolds who are a very helpful and all round good bunch of lads.
The SIG tables where manned by the great traveller and aviator ( he flew an An 2 over in Lithuania on his birthday !! ) Andy MkII , Madnursegaz and myself ....ohh yes and a lot of help from the IPMS Cleveland Gang .....thanks very much ! Models displayed ; 1/144 (Gaz) , 1/72 (Andy MKI and II and Mike Burns Shiny Two with his revetment (cheers mate !) ,1/48 and 1/32 by both Andys. Special thanks to SIG member "theflyingdutchman" (Gerald) from the Netherlands who kindly gave Andy MkII one of his Luftwaffe special scheme Tornado to display ....( he picked it up on his way home from Lithuania... he actually DROVE there and back !!) This year's Northern model show was held at a new venue.......the University of Northumbria in central Newcastle.
A rather quieter than normal show but nevertheless an enjoyable one.....as ever mainly down to the banter we have with the rest of the IPMS Cleveland members.....in particular Terry and the Club secretary John ( No John , you can not put any tanks on our table....only Tornado's with fuel tanks !!) What might of been a daunting drive into Newcastle City centre turned out to be not that bad ....as long as you got in a car park near the venue !! Thankfully most of the IPMS Cleveland convoy along with Nathan managed to get parked close to the venue but it was still a fair trek with boxes to the front doors. Big thanks to Nathan for setting the tables up .....it was just us two as Andy MkII was away. The table looked quite empty without Andy MkIIs considerable Tonka collection. One very interesting addition to the display was Nathans 1/1250 Tornado with scratch built Hindenburgers......yes that's not a typo. Can you spot it in front of the SIG display sign ?? ( I nearly "wiped" it off the table thinking it was an insect !! ) Apart from our Tonkas we saw only one other .....a very nice 36 Stormo Tornado built from the 1/48 Italeri kit by David Thomas of the Tyneside Independent Modellers. No awards this time for the SIG but our IPMS Cleveland club members won a few first places in the competition......a very big well done to newly joined Tornado SIG member Greg who won Best in Show with his Tamiya Lotus racing car !!.......now go get that 1/32 Revell kit that you have built !! Lol The SIG Tonka Twins , Andy MkII and Nathan clocked up the miles and headed down to sunny Torquay to attend the Torbay Military Modelling Society's' model show.
The SIG had a very successful show and picked up 3 certificates ......2 from the Competition tables and another for Second Best club display ! Nice one !! Thanks to Andy and Nathan for flying the flag and also thanks to Paul for inviting us to the Show.....Ive already been told Im being kidnapped by Andy MkII next year on the Show weekend so that I can attend ...!! Here are a few photos of the show..... Last years event was our very first display .....a lot has happened since then ! We had double the table space and still managed to fill it , although due to family commitments I could not attend the show until after lunch ......well to be honest I got to the show just after 12 and then had lunch ...yum yum....see below !! Thanks to the DMMS for another good show and roll on next year. The best food at any model show ?? ......probably ! This show is also great for the catering facilities !! 2 each of eggs ,sausages , bacon with mushrooms , beans and tomatoes plus two slices of toast.
A full English breakfast for £4.50 ....yum yum . Our first visit to this show and hopefully not our last !! A very enjoyable day with lots to see and we had a lot of interest from the public too. This was our second largest ever display , 40 Tornado on display plus one that went unserviceable due to a broken wheel (1/32nd Tigermeet ECR) and there was one poor 229 OCU F3 that I left in the box (oops ! ) a grand total of 42 . Thanks to all who contributed on the day . Oh.....not forgetting.....we were located next to a big thing with swing wings ...YES !!!! A very big thanks to the Shropshire Scale Modellers for organising a very memorable day . Tornados on other tables
Our second show of the year at this very popular venue ....hence the limited table space packed with as much as we could fit on ! The fluorescent lighting plays havoc with the cameras settings so apologies for the orange tinge.......I only took two photos all day ....these are thanks to Andy MkII Buzz973. A special big thanks to Trevor Snowden for bringing his collection of Airfix Tornados and for his time behind the tables . Cheers ! One of our members , Tango Fox , became a class medal winner with his Revell 1/144 Tornado GR1 in Gulf War colours.
Well done Gavin !! Thanks to Paul (Peebeep) and the Locate and Cement SIG who gave up some table space so that James (PaveShadow) could put a mini display on for us .
Cheers lads !! Photo thanks to Peebeep. First show of the new year and luckily the snow held off to allow the show to go ahead !
Photos by Johni044. Thanks . Friday Set Up Our First SMW Tear Down Tornados on other tables Tornados in the Competition 1/144 Saudi Scheme 1/32 Tigermeet Scheme
A great first show that was organised by the Bridlington and Wolds branch. We all had a very good day with a lot of interest from public and personalities alike !! We had an audience with Mr Airfix , Trevor Snowden , and we all learned a lot from the very friendly chap !!
A big thumbs up to the organisers for a successful show and we are already looking forward to next year . |
